Christmas Day 2014
Christmas Day in Denver…
Christmas Day in Denver…
Originally, we planned to stop in Mt. Shasta for one night. But, who’s says you have to stick to the plan? We took an extra day to head up the mountain.
A volcano in the Cascades, Mt. Shasta is the highest peak in the Cascades and 5th highest in California. Although it’s in some dispute, it is said Mt. Shasta last erupted in 1786.
The California drought has impacted the mountain. Although there seems to be plenty of snow, the snow pack is way below normal. Regardless, it was a beautiful drive.
We went as far as Bunny Flat…
Tucker was impressed…
In the afternoon we headed over to Castle Lake; a beautiful alpine lake near Shata.
Next stop Whidbey Island and the San juans
Sunday…Beautiful day…Dustin in town…Lets head out on Duster for a couple of hours of motoring around the Bay!
As we were topping off our tanks, Pyewacket (formerly owned by Roy Disney) stopped off for some fuel while heading back to Newport Beach from the San Diego to Puerto Vallarta Race. She won the Division 2 Class and was 5th overall. Not too shabby.
Looking back as we pulled away from SDYC heading out to the bay.
Dustin…hanging out…taking in the sights.
Tall Ships are a regular sight on our Bay. The Californian is a replica of the C.W. Lawrence, a revenue cutter from 1847
Headed up the bay toward the city.
The USS Midway. Commissioned a week after World War II. She played a huge role in Southeast Asia. We have a close friend who flew off the Midway in Viet Nam. She is now a must see museum on our water front, just up from the Maritime Museum.
